Meet Katie

Hi! My name is Katie and I’m a dessert-loving, bread-craving, homemade-championing lady who spends her days working in DC and her nights crackin’ wise with her techy husband (and our sassy cat) in the Condo Far, Far Away.

I started this blog as a newlywed to chronicle the recipes I tried and loved, and as a way to express some creativity after long days working downtown (Downton?). With time, the recipes have gotten more interesting and the photos a little less fuzzy. I hope to connect you with delicious, approachable recipes for your busy life and maybe make you smile (even if it is just gas–or is that just a baby thing?).

So sharpen your knives, put on that apron, and don your ugly yet supportive footwear, because it’s time to get cooking!

Answers to Questions that No One’s Ever Asked:

What are your favorite Pandora stations? Definitely Paul Simon Radio and College Indie.

What’s your best retort? “Kiss your mother with that mouth?!” (said in a HEAVY Cockney accent, of course).

Any hidden talents? My ability to change the lyrics to any song to make it about cats is uncanny. Songs currently on rotation are “What’s Love Got to Mew with It?” and “All the Single Kitties (Put a Collar on It).”

What’s your beauty secret? Pants.

  1. I really like your site. Your Father -in-law sent it to me (I think he is very proud). Farrell and I grew up together back in Texas and recently found each other via FB. I also like to cook and , if you would like, would send you some of my recipies. We make blackberry jam and syrup every year from my wife’s parents place. I use the syrup when i make cheesecakes, drizzled over the top. Yum. Well , thats all for now, just wanted to tell you I liked your site. Keep it up.

Sometimes I can’t help but feel like I’m speaking to an empty room, though the stats do show that someone’s reading (I’ve always assumed it’s just members of my immediate family). 🙂 I would LOVE some new recipes!   2. Katie, My wife (Carol) tried the no roll pie crust last night. She loved it and says “Thanks for sharing.” Also for the link to “Joy”. She made the buttermilk pie from her site. It was really good with our homemade blackberry syrup. Yum. Thanks again and keep up the test kitchen for us.
