Friends, my favorite time of year is fast approaching. “Summer?” you ask. Well, technically yes. But more specifically, Nate’s and my anniversary is coming down the pike (June 20) and my quarter-century birthday is soon after that. So this is a pretty darn important summer.
Now, I happen to know that the first year anniversary present is supposed to be paper. But Nate broke the mould and surprised me with a brand spankin’ new camera (a Nikon D3000) for my anniversary/birthday present. (Technically, one can print photos on paper, so I think it still works. Technically.) “But it’s May — one month away from your anniversary and two months from your birthday,” you interject. Well, don’t be such a Debbie Downer. Nate wanted me to have plenty of practice with this baby before our big anniversary vacation, and I am happy to oblige.
I am no camera pro (I don’t have to tell you that), but I already feel much more competent behind my Nikon’s monster lens. I’m finally starting to understand all the fuss about bokeh (Pioneer Woman describes it best — and with gorgeous photos), and it’s so cool capturing the detail in things (like Remy the Cat’s fur) that I can see with my naked eye, but am never able to capture with my point and shoot.
If you have any photography tips or tricks, please feel free to send them my way! I can tell that this is only the beginning of a long, beautiful relationship.
